Jim Pepper was a multi-talented musician: a jazz saxophonist, composer, singer, and former member of one of the early jazz fusion groups of the 1960’s, The Free Spirits. Pepper’s heritage was Kaw and Creek Native Americans, so often incorporated native musical influences in his jazz compositions. “Witchi Tai To” was his most popular composition and was covered by a variety of jazz artists. He contributed sax to many jazz recordings, and after his death, was inducted into the Native American Music Awards Hall of Fame.
