Amadeo Roldan y Gardes, a composer and violinist, was a great proponent of the Afrocubanismo art movement in the 1920s. He became the concertmaster of the Orquesta Filarm├│nica of Havana and founded the Havana String Quartet. He wrote the first symphony to include Afro-Cuban percussion instruments. His best-known piece is La Rebambaramba, a ballet composed in 1928, which embodies the joys and colors of Afro-Cuban fiesta in Caribbean melorhythms.
